Washington, DC, November 14, 2014 – The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) has won top honors in nationally-recognized awards for three Safety Videos. An animation depicting a tragic refinery accident in Anacortes, Washington, a safety video on the Deepwater Horizon blowout in the Gulf of Mexico, and a safety message about the dangers of high school laboratory demonstrations each won awards.
CSB Chairperson Rafael Moure-Eraso accepted the awards at the annual Peer Awards ceremony and dinner of theTelevision, Internet, and Video Association of DC (TIVA DC) on Saturday, November 8.
The TIVA awards were presented before an audience of hundreds of regional video and media professionals. The CSB’s videos garnered a total of six gold, silver and bronze awards. Chairperson Moure-Eraso said, “I was honored to represent the CSB at this awards ceremony, which recognizes the exceptional quality of our videos, and the impact they are having on chemical safety in industry and educational settings throughout the country. I’m proud that the videos competed and won in categories that had large numbers of submittals. CSB videos, which are used by companies, trainers, and workers worldwide for improving safety, represent the leading edge of government efforts to disseminate information that can help save lives in the future.”
The winning videos and their categories are:
Peer Gold, Government category, and Bronze, Education/Training category for Animation of Explosion at Anacortes Refinery
Peer Silver, Government category, and Silver Education/Training category for Deepwater Horizon Blowout Animation
Peer Silver, Government cateogry and Silver, Education/Training category for After the Rainbow

The CSB is an independent federal agency charged with investigating serious chemical accidents. The agency's board members are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. CSB investigations look into all aspects of chemical accidents, including physical causes such as equipment failure as well as inadequacies in regulations, industry standards, and safety management systems.
