CSB Announces Expert Panel Participants for Two Day Hearing on Safety Performance Indicators in Houston, Texas, on July 23-24
Washington, DC, July 18, 2012 - The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) today announced the panel participants for its two-day hearing on effective safety performance indicators, where the agency plans to release preliminary findings from its investigation of the Macondo well blowout, explosion and fire in the Gulf of Mexico.
The meeting will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012, and Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in Houston, Texas, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel located at 1200 Louisiana Street in the Imperial West Auditorium. The meeting will bring together international regulators, union representatives, and industry groups to discuss the use of safety performance indicators in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon accident.

The CSB is an independent federal agency charged with investigating industrial chemical accidents. The agency's board members are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. CSB investigations look into all aspects of chemical accidents, including physical causes such as equipment failure as well as inadequacies in regulations, industry standards, and safety management systems.
