On February 9, 2026, the CSB opened an investigation into the fatal release of a toxic gas, hydrogen sulfide, that occurred on January 27, 2026, at the Woodland Pulp Mill manufacturing facility in Baileyville, Maine. The catastrophic incident resulted in two fatalities and several exposures to toxic hydrogen sulfide.
